Dry Shade Garden

The prominent Norway spruce in the Dry Shade Garden provides shade and its roots compete with the perennials for moisture. Thus, it provides the ideal setting to display plants that adapt well to dry shade.

Dry shade typically provides the most challenge for the home gardener. Sites like this either require frequent watering or selection of plants adapted to these growing conditions such as Acanthus spinosus (bear's breeches).
