Featured Chadwick Plants for the 2016 Spring Plant Sale

This is the first installment of a series of articles highlighting plants that will be available for the 2016 Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens Spring Plant Sale. This installment will focus on some featured plants being offered by Chadwick this year. The next installment will feature the Master Gardener and Student Organization's featured items.




We're excited to announce the following fruit will be offered for the first time:

Goji Berry – no cultivar given by Millcreek

Gooseberry (purple) – ‘Black Velvet’

Gooseberry (red) – ‘Hinnonmaki Red’

Currant (black) – ‘Consort’

Currant (red) – ‘Red Lake’

Raspberry (red) – ‘Caroline’

Raspberry (red) – ‘Crimson Night’

Raspberry (yellow) – ‘Double Gold’

Raspberry (yellow) – ‘Fall Gold’

Raspberry (purple) – ‘Glen Coe’

Blackberry – Prime-Ark®45


Some featured perennials this year include:

Achillea ‘Little Moonshine’ – Similar to ‘Moonshine; but compact (10”-12”); early summer bloomer; good for small garden
Aster Kickin® ‘Pink Chiffon’ and ‘Lilac Blue’ – compact for an Aster (2’-3’); blooms late in the season – good for pollinators
Centaurea ‘Caramia’ – bright violet-pink feathery petals surround pink quilled center; gives a wind-swept look
Helleborus:  Wedding Party Series™ – ‘Blushing Bridesmaid’ (lavender double); ‘Maid of Honor’ (pink double); ‘Wedding Bells’ (white double); ‘First Dance’ (yellow double); ‘True Love’ (maroon double)
Heuchera ‘Berry Timeless’ – very good flower production; spent flowers dry in-place instead of falling off leaving bare stem; continuous bloom all summer; villosa hybrid (very robust)
Iris sibirica ‘Kabluey’ – intense bluish-purple; double (unusual for Siberian Iris)
Monarda Balmy™ Pink and Rose – dwarf (10”-12”), compact; mildew resistant
Phlox ‘Home Fires’ –  vibrant pink; creeping; shade or woodland garden
Veronica ‘Aspire’ – flowers and foliage more substantial than other Veronicas; compact; long-lasting flowers

Buddleia ‘Attraction’ – purplish-red
Buddleia ‘Buzz™ Sky Blue’ – short (36”-48”); good for large pot or small garden
Buddleia Flutterby Petite™ Pink – dwarf (24”-30”); good for large pot or small garden
