Ash Trees Replaced in Sphinx Honors Grove

Aug. 31, 2014

Emerald Ash Borer has caused the demise of the 39 ‘Autumn Applause’ Ash trees that Chadwick Arboretum staff and volunteers planted on a snowy Fall day in 1995 with the Sphinx Senior Honorary students in the site between Chadwick’s Cancer Survivors’ Plaza and the Longaberger Alumni House. The grove, which is planted in an ‘S’ form will be replanted next spring using Nyssa sylvatica (Black Gum). In 2004 the grove was renamed the Dan L. Heinlen Sphinx Grove in honor of the long-time president and CEO of the OSU Alumni Association. Dan wan a member of the Sphinx class of 1960.
