Benches and/or trees that honor the accomplishments or life of a loved one or colleague can be installed within the boundaries of our three garden sites in the Arboretum. There are two levels of support from which to choose a tree: Endowed Trees and Gift Trees. Regardless of whether you select an endowed tree or a gift tree, new trees are selected from a list that is provided by our horticulturists and teaching faculty to enhance our teaching collections. Established trees that are already growing in the Arboretum can also be selected.
Endowed Trees are grown in perpetuity in the Arboretum. If an endowed tree dies for whatever reason, it is replaced. The endowed tree has a plaque mounted on a 2"x4" wooden post that includes your sentiment as well as the name of the tree. Records of endowed trees with the donor's name and sentiment are maintained in the Arboretum database. The cost of an endowed tree is $2500. New trees are typically planted in fall and spring.
Gift Trees can endure for more than a life time, but are only replaced if something happens to them within the first five years of planting. Each Gift Tree has a plaque mounted on a 2"x4" wooden post that includes your sentiment as well as the name of the tree. Records of gift trees with the donor's name and sentiment are maintained in the Arboretum database. The cost of installing a gift tree is $1000. New trees are typically planted in fall and spring.
The cost of a bench, which is 6' long with redwood slats and black steel legs, is $1200. A 1" x 3" metal plaque that notes your sentiment is attached to the bench. For example: In memory of John Smith from his co-workers in the Department of Horticulture.
