The Steven M. Still Garden features an extensive display of multi-seasoned perennials, shrubs, and small trees. On September 7, 2005 world-renowned English garden designer and plants man Adrian Bloom led the one-day installation of the garden with 120 volunteers, creating a colorful and diverse entrance to the Learning Gardens.
Many partners, including the Perennial Plant Association, Blooms of Bressingham, area growers and industry professionals donated materials and helped with the installation. In August 2007 the garden will be dedicated to honor Steven M. Still. He is the current director of the Perennial Plant Association and Emeritus OSU professor of landscape horticulture. During his 25 year tenure at Ohio State he mentored, lectured, advised, and nurtured more than 4,000 students. He is also the author of the widely used Manual of Herbaceous Ornamental Plants. Still was also the first director of the OSU Chadwick Arboretum.
Efforts are currently underway to establish the The Steven M. Still Endowment. The endowment will provide support for the maintenance of the garden as well as hands-on employment opportunities for horticulture students.
The Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens encourages you to join former students, colleagues, friends, industry professionals, family members, gardeners, volunteers, and visitors in celebrating the horticultural contributions of Professor Still by supporting this endowment. Tax deductible contributions can be sent to The Ohio State University, Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens, 2001 Fyffe Court, Columbus, Ohio 43210-1096. More information about this endowment or additional gift opportunities are available by calling 614-688-3479.
