Kleinmaier Garden

The Bert & Josephine Kleinmaier Perennial Garden was donated by Josephine Kleinmaier to the Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens in 1994 to honor her late husband, Bert Kleinmaier. Mr. Kleinmaier was a leader in the horticulture industry in central Ohio and an OSU graduate who took an active interest in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science.

The Kleinmaier Perennial Garden consists of three extensively planted beds located north of the gazebo in the Learning Gardens. The garden was originally designed by horticulture students in 1993 with input from family members, and installed in the Lane Avenue Gardens in 1994 and 1995 by staff and volunteers. In 2001, the garden design was revised by Deb Knapke, an OSU horticulture graduate and garden designer, and installed in its current location in the Learning Gardens in 2003. The garden features full sun perennials and a collection of Viburnums, used by horticulture students in the woody plant identification classes.
